VILLAGE COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS
June 4, 2012
Council met on Monday June 4, 2012 at 7 p.m.at the Village Hall. Meeting opened with the Pledge of
Allegiance. Those present included
President Jordan, Treasurer Kossa, Clerk Somers, Deputy Clerk/Treasurer
Stutzman and Council Members Healy, Lask, Naylor, Somers and Stutzman. Council Member Gauthier was absent. Also present were Attorney Cook and
Minutes of the May
meeting were approved on a motion from Lask with support from Healy. Treasurer’s report was approved subject
to audit on a motion from Lask with support from Naylor.
Alcona County Sheriff Doug
Atchison introduced himself and spoke about his bid for re-election. He has been with the Sheriff’s Department in
several capacities over many years. He
gave a brief overview of services that are offered to area residents.
Fire Chief Leroy Hall said
it has been relatively quiet. Work on
the brush rig is moving along nicely.
Jordan thanked the department for their presence within the community at
various functions including the group that helped with the Memorial Day
ceremony last week.
In public comment Zoning
Administrator Troy Somers stated that some property owners have been notified
about cleaning and mowing. He will also
check into a few more complaints that need to be addressed. There is also a sign that needs to be taken
down that Troy will look into. The next
Planning/Zoning meeting is scheduled for June 21st. Kathy Putsky stated that the Memorial Day
ceremony was very good again this year.
Debbie Shaneour stated that there are several fundraisers for the
Brownlee Lake Association over the next several months. She posted a list of upcoming events. The beautification committee has been keeping
very busy cleaning and planting within the community. Jordan thanked the group for their
efforts. Nathan Walker approached the
council regarding a new baseball team that has been formed and will be playing
on the ball diamond. He wanted to make
sure that the schedule works with anyone else who may need to use the
field. Council members welcomed having a
men’s league in the village again. They
will be playing their first game on Sunday June 10th.
In old business Stutzman
stated that the flower boxes at the playground have been planted. He questioned if it was possible to get some
benches at the playground area. Jordan
will look into it with him and try to find something that will work. Healy stated that she has talked with
Gauthier regarding doing some fundraising for cleanup and repairs at the Flights
of Imagination. She said they are
looking at small goals and the group will be getting together to put their
plans in motion. Somers stated that he
has collected money for dirt for the ball fields. He asked for permission to pay fuel costs for
someone to haul the dirt to us. Council
members agreed that it was a good idea.
Lask stated that the Memorial Day ceremony was wonderful. Jordan stated that he has heard a lot of

said he will continue working around the playground. Somers stated that 10 septics were pumped
today and some were pretty tough. Dick
will talk with the property owners involved.
Naylor asked about getting a shelter tent for use at village
ceremonies/events. Jordan asked him to
come back with some figures at the next meeting for the cost of renting or
President Jordan stated
that there was a water problem at the ball field bathrooms a few weeks
ago. Dick stated that the issue has been
resolved. The electricity at the ball
field will be addressed soon. The new
banners are in but we are awaiting new brackets in order to install them on the
poles. Jordan stated that there is a
need to get more trash cans placed around the area. Thank
You goes out to Dick and Hester Laird for the donation of a photo album of the
Village centennial celebration. A porta
potty will be placed at the beach soon.
Motion was made by Lask
with support from Healy to put the delinquent people that are on the sewer
system on the tax roll and pass the following resolution: 2012-01. Be it
resolved on a request from the Village Treasurer received and filed that these
accounts including penalties are unpaid.

Roll call vote was taken
with Healy, Lask, Naylor, Somers, and Stutzman all ayes. Gauthier was absent. Motion carried.
Jordan stated that a work
bee was held at the playground and a lot of work was accomplished. He thanked all those who helped out. He stated that he would like have a bee every
4 to 6 weeks during the summer months.
Motion to pay the bills
as presented was made by Lask with support from Healy. Motion carried. A motion to adjourn was made by Stutzman with
support from Lask. Motion carried.
